My History of Rock Music class is going to be fascinating. I've studied piano, played percussion in the school orchestra and done a little signing in choirs at school and church. All very much back in the day! BUT, I've never really consciously studied/broken down the popular music I listen to. I look forward to learning and listening!!

Salvatore Ferragamo’s Fall 2011 collection was inspired by the 80s power dressing woman.

We saw sexy pinstripe double-breasted suits, masculine cut jacket with pointed lapels, body hugging pencil skirts, tailored pants and belted dresses in gingham, check, stripes and houndstooth. They dominated the runway on a grey, white and mostly black colour palette.

The body conscious collection was so beautifully chic.

Apart from the suits we also saw some beautiful winter white coats and black leather trenches.
At night the power woman changes into a dress with a plunging neckline accented with Swarovski mesh and lace detailing or sumptuous bustier dress with embroidered patchwork details.
Key accessories included top-cap pumps, gingham, houndstooth, striped and tweed pumps plus clutches and shoulder bags.

A new exhibition at Manhattan's Times Square Discovery Center immerses visitors in the daily routines and cataclysmic disaster that froze an ancient city in its tracks.

Pompeii the Exhibit: Life and Death in the Shadow of Vesuvius examines what happened to the city and its 25,000 residents both before and after the massive eruption of Italy's Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.

The day after Vesuvius exploded in what one account called a "firestorm of poisonous vapors and molten debris," the city was buried under 10 feet of ash, lava, rock and debris.


""Earthquakes destroy and ruin. Volcanoes are like Saran wrap," archaeologist and curatorial consultant Kristin Romey told the Newark Star-Ledger. "There was this super-hot layer of gas that came down and cooked everything in place, covered it up and sealed it. That's why Pompeii is so unique."

The new Times Square exhibit, which runs through Sept. 5, features the largest collection of the victims' body casts and skeletons ever displayed, along with more than 250 artifacts from gladiator armor to a perfectly preserved loaf of bread. But it also includes an "immersive movie experience" with a time-lapsed video recreation of the eruption, such you-are-there special effects as the clatter of pumice falling on roof tiles and blasts of hot air, and a recreation of a Pompeian brothel room with an authentic erotic fresco. (An example of the latter: graffiti that translates to: "Here I came, I had sex, then I went home.")

Discovery Times Square is open daily; tickets to the Pompeii exhibit are $25 for adults, $19.50 for children and $22.50 for seniors.
