A stunt double is not always only a stunt double for action scenes. Often they're also the body double in other scenes but not necessarily nudity.

They are sometimes also used for shots where you don't see the actors face, or for example from behind, just a leg or walking far away, etc. This saves time for the real actor to get prepared for other scenes.

A body double sometimes also needs to have certain skills like playing the violin or the piano, etc. Then there's also the stand-in.

These links explain it really good:

Always good to have people that look like you, I guess. :)Thanks, Claudia. I always like reading things dealing with how movies are made.

I like the idea of there not being too many though. My favorite part of Silence of The Lambs is the first fifteen minutes. Lord, I could just eat her up!

In one of the interviews for Panic Room, Jodie mentioned that once she saw the official trailer for the film, she couldn't remember actually filming one of the shots the way it appeared... And then upon closer inspection, said "It's Jill! It's not me."
