Canvas an independent film with Marcia Gay Harden and Joe Pantoliano

It's a very touching movie about a woman with schizophrenia. Marcia Gay Harden is in top form. Well, she always is. She's just amazing!

The whole dealing with schizophrenia reminds me of Mary Stuart Masterson's character Joon in "Benny & Joon", another excellent performance.

    I saw that film, too.

I thought Joey Pants was the standout in that one! He is one of the most consistent actors working…. And/or surrounded by some very bright advisors and agents.

Schizophrenia is still one of the most difficult subjects for any fictional account, even if based on fact (i.e. "A Beautiful Mind") to portray. Regardless of what anyone says, they/we still know so little about it.

I can tell you that the hiss of running water does help silence (or drown out) tinnitus, however, so I can see where it might drown out "voices," if one hears one or more.

Any movie that gets people to start debating such a topic is ok by me.

Thanks for the video Claudia, Canvas looks like an interesting film, worthy of watching and talking about.

I keep forgetting to post, but I saw "The Kids Are Alright" a couple of weeks ago. Wonderful! It's a smart, real film with some NICE performances by Annette Benning,Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo. I saw it with a group of my girlfriends who are gay, they liked it too, it just seemed real, and was a nice portrayal of a family. I was disappointed that they didn't use The Who song by the same name. But they did have an X song in it, so that MORE THAN made up for it!

I agree, Pantoliano was excellent! His character was a very understanding, supporting and patient husband. And also the young boy did a good job. I even think that the bigger part of the movie is about him and his son dealing with the whole situation, while Marcia's character is away for quite some time.

I haven't seen that many films or TV work of Joey Pants but he is definitely underrated.

I read his book "Who's Sorry Now," and fell in love with him.

I watched the film "Babies" yesterday (A look at one year in the life of four babies from around the world, from Mongolia to Namibia to San Francisco to Tokyo ). It's great! I especially liked when the little Japanese tried to build a pyramid laugh

I just watched the movie Lars an the real girl. This incredible story that could happen only in the imagination of the filmmakers. Unfortunately everything is much tougher and more prosaic in real life.

Has anyone ever seen Ryan Gosling do a "less than memorable" job, in any film????????????

I couldn't get up in the morning without hope that there are people in this world who are intelligent and sensitive enough to be able to see such a situation through…… Especially with "Lars and the Real Girl." It COULD HAPPEN, even in your own home town.

If you research the methods by which the communities of India deal with individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia, and then compare it to the general majority of reactions, here in the states…… They reveal our archaic orientation with the oldest schools of psychiatry. diagnostics and treatment. Hell, we end up as the equivalent of earlier dismissed Russian techniques.

Creative, intelligent people have never had more to fear than they do at the present time. And yet, bold-facedly they move on….. Fight the fear!

Me too! Plus, we missed the first 2 or 3 minutes of the film. I'm going to ask a dumb question (knowing you like I do). Did you get the connection between some of the key music and one of the actresses? I thought it was very smart!

I have been so exhausted from my work and life, lately that I have missed a great deal of pertinent detail while watching some recent films. Please expound!

Also, I did get to watch The Book of Eli recently……. And that one was almost as powerful for me as "The Last Temptation of Christ." Denzel and the entire cast and crew did a phenomenal job on that one. I loved the writing.

I need to see the Book of Eli, I look forward to 2 hrs with Denzel! I'm shocked that exhaustion would cause you to be off your game. Yes, you are that good! In Inception they used music by Edith Piaf as a trigger (for lack of a better term). Marion Cottiard won her Oscar portraying Edith Piaf in La Vien Rose.Ok, now the secret is out. listen
